About us
Learn about our journey, values and vision as we help build the UK and Europe’s future subsea cable capability.
Aquora was created to address one of the most significant challenges in decarbonising and electrifying the Uk and Europe’s economies: the chronic shortage of high quality, local subsea cable and installation capacity. This shortage has become a major constraint on the deployment of offshore wind, interconnectors and grid reinforcement projects—nationally-critical infrastructure needed to deliver affordable, low carbon and secure energy.
Rooted in Scotland, Aquora builds on the technical expertise, engineering development and industry insight established by XLCC. As the market evolved and long term project timelines shifted, it became clear that a revised, more focused and phased strategy was needed. Aquora is the result of that strategic reset: a streamlined, installation first business designed to meet immediate market needs while laying the foundations for future competitive, domestic and regional cable manufacturing at scale.
Today, Aquora focuses on delivering integrated onshore and subsea cable system and installation capability, supported by a strategic partnership with Orient Cables (NBO) - a global leader in the design, manufacture and testing of high‑voltage cable. Looking ahead, Aquora plans to develop a specialised HVDC and HVAC cable manufacturing facility in Scotland - building sovereign capacity, creating high value jobs and strengthening national energy security, while unlocking a new high value export potential for the UK and Europe.
