Aquora was created to address one of the most significant challenges in decarbonising and electrifying the UK and Europe’s economies: the shortage of high quality, local subsea cable and installation capacity. This shortage has become a major constraint in the deployment of offshore wind, interconnectors and grid reinforcement projects—nationally-critical infrastructure needed to deliver affordable, low carbon and secure energy.
Rooted in Scotland, Aquora builds on the technical expertise, engineering development and industry insight established by XLCC. As the market evolved and long-term project timelines shifted, it became clear that a revised, more focused and phased strategy was needed. Aquora is the result of that strategic reset: immediate focus is on building a full-service cable installation and repair capability, including a purpose-built UK-flagged cable-lay vessel (CLV), supported by engineering and project-delivery expertise and relationships with selected cable-manufacturing partners.
Over the longer term, Aquora also plans to develop a revised high-voltage DC and AC subsea and underground cable manufacturing facility in Scotland, further strengthening the domestic supply-chain.
